Records of establishing and operating computer security emergency centers go back to 1988 and the widespread of the Morris worm. This worm was created by a 23-year-old student and spread widely in a short time after being released. According to the technical documents, about 60 to 80 thousand computers on the network (ARPANET) were infected with this worm which was 10% of the total number of computers at that time. After the successfully limitation of the worm spread, various seminars were held and the methods of dealing with such events in the future were discussed widely. Finally,it was concluded that the biggest problem in confronting the limitation of the Morris worm, was inappropriate communication and relation among different organizations. Following this event,a plan to establish and develop a center to deal with the cyber world events entitled "Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)" was proposed and the institute of software engineering at the Carnegie Mellon University was selected as the host of this new center. CERT later became a commercial service of the university its name was changed to (CERT / CC). From that time based on local and periodic requirements of different countries, similar emergency response centers have been designed, planned and started their services. These centers have been gradually developed their domain of services and range of activities throughout time.
APA center at Isfahan University of Technology (IUT) serving as a response team has started its activities in 2007 in the specific field of “security incidents and network vulnerabilities”. Since the establishment of this center, various organizations and companies have used APA services which are divided into “awareness services”,“academic and training services”,“vulnerability handling services”,“incident handling services” and “security evaluation and analysis services”. APA is academically relying on “System and Network Security Research Group” at the “Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering” and also uses expert faculty members, students and graduates of Isfahan University of Technology (IUT) in achieving the goals of serving organizations and companies.Mission Statement
